MERA BHARAT MAHAN

This Sunday, it was Indian everywhere.
Special Indian cuisines in restaurants, Young students in Indian attire, Indian flag on every vehicle, on every door, Indian patriotic songs echoing in the ears.
That day I woke up listening to the slogans raised by young students who organized a Independence Day parade. They shouted,
Mera bharat Mahan, mera bharat Mahan’
I wondered if they ever knew the meaning of what they are saying??? Do they really understand the meanings??
The school students often recite what is taught to them by their teachers.
When I asked about it to my younger brother (who is a primary school student), he replied that Independence day is the day of pastries, chocolates and flag for him. For all these are provided free of cost in his school on Independence Day. The only thing that made him upset was the day on which Independence Day appeared. Since it was a Sunday, he missed one of the holidays this year.
So the point is that how many of us take this day seriously?? Do we really understand the meaning of the slogans that we raise?? Or is mera bharat really a Mahan country??? Geographically it may be vast, but are we great in terms of development??
Ultimately, it is a bunch of unanswered questions that we have… Indians are completely familiar with these unanswered questions since they are a part and parcel of our Indian life style.

Mera Bharat is Mahan when I showcase my hope towards the rulers of the country. We elect them again and again even though some are not even trustworthy.

Mera bharat is indeed Mahan when I hope over the potholes on the roads. I complain that the roads are very small, however it doesn’t bother me if the wide roads are made shorter by the hawkers settled on the roadside. I curse my luck to be born as an Indian, when I pull my scooty stuck up in the marshy roads, but I don’t even bother to keep those roads clean. According to the Indian in me , the only person responsible for keeping roads clean is the municipality.

Mera bharat is Mahan when I praise the unity in diversity of the incredible India. We pledge that we respect every religion. We are born as an Indian before we were categorized to Hindus and Muslims.

However these are mere words that inspire the Indian in me, when it comes to action, it’s always the Hindu or Muslim in me who triumphs over the Indian heart. Or else why would the honour killings and religious terrorism happen in India??

Mera bharat is indeed Mahan because technically we are much progressed.
The Indian media gives us news about almost everything. Right from the tweet-fight of politicians to the elbow injury of a cricketer.
They need to be applauded for the courage they have while they cover the terror attacks of midnight or the earthquake at the dawn. However being a Indian youth I prefer bollywood gossips more than any political debate. The ‘glam’ page of the newspaper is the most discussed topic among Indian youth. We don’t even bother if any minister corrupted Indian games or if there’s any drug scandal. Why would we sprain our brain on that when we have Tendulkar downpour and Ronaldo rampage to discuss about?

Mera bharat is indeed Mahan when a student in a remote village struggles to study his lessons in the light of a kerosene lamp, while the one in metro cities browse social networking sites in the classroom amidst his lectures.
What a beautiful contrast to explain Indian technological growth!!!!

Mera bharat will be Mahan only if the Indian in me wakes up. It’s my responsibility to develop my country. If Indian brains can contribute to the development of the most developed nations on the world, what about our nation???

Guys there are many stones left unturned on the path of development…. Let’s join together and strive towards the progress of the country because our country is still considered as a developing country…when will we become a developed nation??? 63 years of struggle towards development is not enough????

Once again there occurs many unanswered questions…lets answer them, lets unite for the progress of our country!!!!!!

STILL WAITING

The Sun was about to rise,
when tears rolled from my eyes,
I almost cried
When I saw you drenched in blood .

The doctor smiled,
" here's your little princess, just born"
Though you stopped crying at my touch
your eyes , completely wet.

It was about to rain,
you walked your first step,
holding my thumb, along the lane
along the road ,street and the park.

It was almost quarter to noon,
when you whispered, "mom"...
For how could I thank you ,
wish then I was the luckiest mom!

You grew up so fast,
I didn't realize the time passed
I stood by you, at your every wish,
every defeat and every hope.

The sun was about to set when you graduated,
far away from home,
missed you ,, wish you did the same

It was a dark night
when wolves howled,
worried," for what now?"
Tele- news flashed,
'TERROR ATTACKS'
'people managing to escape some how'

I still remember those words,
" Mom, I 'm trapped'
they are mad,,,,they are many,,,,,
Is there help any??

couldn't hear anything else then,
thanks to busy networks and poor battery cellphones,
for your mom's still waiting...........
my princess,,where's you??
It's already two years due..........

THE BLAME GAME

We often come across various ocassions where we are forced to blame the government .

The city is unclean, blame the municipality. It doesnt matter even if the waste was thrown out of your window.

There is corruption everywhere,, why blame the government.?? Stop paying them.

None of us will ever try to stop those men spitting paan on public places,,,unless and untill they spit on your door. And we want the government to keep public places clean!

I have often heard students blame the education system. They say it imposes burden on them.
If an average scoring student takes up engineering in an Indian college only because he got the seat through the caste resevation system, he would end up becoming a useless engineer.
Recently one of my friend (belonging to scheduled caste reservation category) was found criticizing the Indian education system .
Iasked him, " So why dont you reject the seats that you get in an institution because of your caste status. Even the caste reservation is a curse to the indian education system!"

This is what he replied to me
" Will you reject the best college in the city even though you deserve none? If some one asks me to chose between a golden axe and an iron axe , its obvious that i would grab the golden ."

I felt speechless. A few moments ago, he spoke of the faults in education system and now he
regrets from acting against the system!
I could speak nothing . But I managed to reply ,
"Choose the axe that you prefer. But do remember that its the iron axe that ultimately comes handy. "

Its simply easy to blame the government for all the faults in the system.
Afterall its we citizens who elect the government.
We elected them to rule the country, but that doesn't mean we dont have any responsibility towards our country!
Unless and untill we decide and act, nothing's gonna change.
Lets act and try together to convert India into a developed country from a developing nation.
Indian's have always made history, then why remain passive in the present!??

THE WISH UNTOLD

Yesterday while I was cleaning my bookshelf, I came across this poem that I had written during my primary school years. I still remember the excitement and happiness that I went through when my poem got published in the the souvenir of the school. The paper on which the poem was written had become old and torn, the white paper now had yellow shades and the ink had almost faded, but the memories and happiness still remain afresh.
here it goes.......

THE UNTOLD WISH
I wish I was the yellow blossom in your garden,
you would have kissed me every dawn.

Wish I was the dew on the leaflet,
I could have settled on your cheeks as you tickled the leaves.

Wish I could be the cuckoo on the peepal,
I would have sung in harmony with your anklets .

Wish I was one among the rays of the sun,
I could have touched you , see you smile at the dusk time.

I wish I was a strand of your hair,
you would have played with me,
deep engrossed in your thoughts and dreams.

Wishes are many as I stare into your eyes

Wanna tell my wishes to you someday,
Wanna tell you my love someday,
Rather helpless, I apologize,
for mom,
I am only three months old today!
